1. Where do you provide in-home care services?  Our caregivers can provide senior home care in Orange County, Los Angeles County, Riverside County and San Bernardino County.  If a need arises, we will strive to accommodate anyone who needs care outside this geographical area.

  2. Does Affinia provide services to seniors in nursing homes or assisted living facilities?  Yes, Affinia caregivers can provide companionship or personal care to residents at assisted living communities and nursing homes who may desire additional attention or personalized care.

  3. Does Affinia Home Care provide transportation services to its clients?  Yes, transportation can be included in the Care Plan.  Many of our Caregivers are licensed drivers with clean DMV records. The Caregiver can provide transportation either in the client’s car, the caregiver’s car, or escort the client on public transportation or taxi.  Affinia Caregivers can drive or escort our clients to medical appointments, religious services, hairdressers, shopping or special events.

  4. What are the minimum and maximum hours service can be provided?  We usually have a minimum of four (4) hours for a single day and can provide service up to 24 hours a day / 7 days a week live-in care.  To discuss your specific requirement for senior home care and corresponding service rates, please contact us.

  5. Will Medicare or private insurance pay for Affinia’s care services?  Medicare does not cover home care services that are not considered necessary and medically prescribed.  In general, home care is also not paid for by health insurance. This is because care is provided by non-licensed Caregivers not licensed Nurses or other health professionals.  Long Term Care Insurance may pay for senior home care service. Check your policy, with insurance broker or insurance carrier to find out what care the policy covers.  If you wish, we can assist you with verifying your coverage.

  6. Who pays the caregiver and how do they get paid?  All of our Caregivers are employees of Affinia Home Care, not independent contractors. You should avoid any agency that does not employ its Caregivers.  One of the benefits of using an agency like ours is that we take care of paying the Caregivers, along with the taxes, insurance, benefits and other administrative requirements.  Clients never have to worry about payroll taxes or liability insurance. The designated responsible party will receive an invoice from Affinia each billing period and payment should be remitted directly to our office.

  7. How do you select and screen your Caregivers?  Prior to selecting a caregiver, we personally meet with our clients and their families and conduct an in-home or facility evaluation to assess the specific needs of our clients. Upon developing a Care Plan, we evaluate and screen our qualified Caregivers for each client.  All Affinia Caregivers are extensively screened prior to hiring - verifying employment eligibility, driving records, and conducting a comprehensive criminal background check.

  8. Can the Caregiver assist with medication?  Caregivers can assist with medication reminders only.  Drug treatment plans that include sorting and administering medications should only be handled by a family caregiver, nurse, or physician who is authorized and qualified to provide this service.

  9. What do you mean by "light housekeeping"?  Light housekeeping includes cleaning and tidying common areas in the house, dish washing, taking out the trash, laundry, changing bed linens, mopping and vacuuming.  It does not include moving furniture, washing windows, scrubbing or waxing floors, scouring toilets, tubs or sinks and shampooing carpets.

  10. Why should I hire Affinia Home Care instead of hiring an independent Caregiver directly?  If you hire an independent caregiver directly, you become the employer and must take into consideration the management, tax and liability issues that come into play. You maybe required to withhold for Social Security, Unemployment, Payroll Tax. You may need to obtain Workers Compensation insurance.  If not, you may be held responsible for any injuries the Caregiver sustains while working in your home.  You need to conduct a comprehensive, national criminal background check.  What happens if the caregiver doesn’t show up for work?  Are you prepared to find a replacement urgently or to stay at home and take care of your loved one?  If the care is for you, are you prepared to be without care if the caregiver does not show up?  These are just a few of the challenges you will face when hiring Caregivers directly.  With Affinia Home Care, we will take care of all these issues for your peace of mind.

  11. Can I change or discontinue the services my family receives?  You can change the hours or type of service we provide your loved one whenever it’s necessary. We understand the care situation can quickly change, so we’re as flexible as possible with your loved one’s care. Also, you’re never bound to a long-term contract, so you can discontinue your relationship with Affinia Home Care at your discretion.
